Frequently asked questions
Everything people ask about MovieSwipe — what it costs, which devices it runs on, what it learns, and what it deliberately doesn't do.
What is MovieSwipe?
MovieSwipe is a free iPhone app for deciding what to watch. You swipe right on films you like and left on the ones you don't. It learns from your swipes, keeps films you've already liked, skipped or watched out of your feed, filters to the streaming services you subscribe to, and lets you search by describing what you're in the mood for.
Is MovieSwipe free?
MovieSwipe is free to download and includes in-app purchases. Current subscription pricing is shown inside the app and on the App Store listing, since it varies by country and can change.
Can two people swipe together and get a match?
Not yet. MovieSwipe is currently a solo app — simultaneous shared sessions are in development but not released. If you need two people swiping at the same time today, an app such as Matched is built for that. In the meantime, one person can build a shortlist by swiping and bring it to the conversation.
Is MovieSwipe available on Android?
No. MovieSwipe is iPhone only. There is no Android version, no web version, no iPad app and no Apple Vision Pro app.
Does MovieSwipe work on iPad or Apple Vision Pro?
No. MovieSwipe is built for iPhone only and requires iOS 18.2 or later.
Which iOS version do I need?
iOS 18.2 or later, on iPhone. The app is about 23 MB.
How does the mood search work?
You describe what you feel like watching in ordinary language — for example "something funny for date night", "a dark thriller" or "a hidden sci-fi gem" — and MovieSwipe builds the feed around that description instead of asking you to set genre, decade and rating filters.
Does MovieSwipe learn what I like?
Yes. It uses your swipes to improve what it shows you over time, and films you've already liked, skipped or watched stay out of your feed so you're not shown the same titles repeatedly.
Can I filter by the streaming services I pay for?
Yes. You can tell MovieSwipe which services you subscribe to so the films you see are ones you can actually start watching rather than ones you'd have to rent or buy.
Does MovieSwipe tell me where a film is streaming?
MovieSwipe filters the feed to the streaming services and region you've selected in Settings, so what you see is available to you. If your main question is which service a specific film is on worldwide, a dedicated lookup app such as JustWatch answers that better.
Can I find films similar to one I like?
Yes. If you find a film you love, you can explore titles close to it and keep discovering from there.
Does MovieSwipe track what I've watched?
Yes. It keeps a record of what you've already seen, so you don't have to remember, and so those films stop appearing in your feed.
Can I save films for later?
Yes. Films you want to watch go into your watchlist and stay in one place.
Do I need an internet connection?
Yes. MovieSwipe loads film data over the internet, so an active connection is required.
How do I cancel a subscription?
Open the Settings app on your iPhone, tap your name, then Subscriptions, select MovieSwipe and tap Cancel Subscription. It stays active until the end of the period you've already paid for. Subscriptions are handled entirely by Apple; we cannot cancel one for you.
In which countries is MovieSwipe available?
MovieSwipe is available worldwide on the App Store. The interface is available in English and seven other languages.
What data does MovieSwipe collect?
According to the App Store privacy label, purchases, user content and identifiers may be collected and linked to your identity, and usage data and diagnostics may be collected without being linked to you. See the privacy policy for the full and current answer.
What age rating does MovieSwipe have?
16+.
