Boilerplate — 50 words

MovieSwipe is an iPhone app for deciding what to watch. Users swipe right on films they like and left on the ones they don't. It learns from every swipe, keeps films already seen or skipped out of the feed, and filters to the streaming services the user actually subscribes to.

Boilerplate — 100 words

MovieSwipe is an iPhone app that turns picking a film into a sequence of yes-or-no choices instead of a scroll through a catalogue. Users swipe right on films they want to see and left on the ones they don't, and the app learns from every swipe — films already liked, skipped or watched stay out of the feed. It filters to the streaming services the user subscribes to, so recommendations are things they can start immediately rather than rent. A plain-language search lets users describe what they're in the mood for instead of stacking genre filters. MovieSwipe is made by independent developer Casper Steenhoven and is available in eight languages.

The angle, if you need one

Streaming solved the supply problem and created a decision problem. People routinely spend twenty to thirty minutes browsing before watching anything, and a share of those evenings end with nothing watched. MovieSwipe borrows the swipe interface for a specific reason: recall is hard and recognition is easy. Nobody can name five films they want to watch, but anyone can react to five posters in ten seconds. Add a feed that learns and a filter for the services you already pay for, and the recommendation stops being aspirational and starts being something you can press play on.

What MovieSwipe is not

We'd rather be described accurately than generously. MovieSwipe does not currently support two people swiping at the same time — that is in development. It is not a worldwide streaming-availability lookup. It is not a review community. It is iPhone-only: no iPad, no Apple Vision Pro, no Android, no web. And it is a small independent app with a small review count.
